Timbavati Wildlife Park Winter Projects

Greetings friends and welcome to this week’s post. As I sit and write this I am looking at the temperature drop and a day full of fresh show flakes taking hold on the leafless trees. Temperatures have been warm for the past few days. This drop serves to remind all of us that winter is still here. While it’s a popular notion that the Wisconsin Dells is completely shut down during the winter months, nothing could be further from the truth. The reality is the closing of the summer season means we have months and months of projects to tackle.

Almost every attraction in the Wisconsin Dells take on projects when the season is over. At the conclusion of our 2016 season we took on new rock walls and the completion of our train station observation deck. We also completed Nursery number two that houses many of our smaller nocturnal animals.

The projects that we have been tackling going into our 2018 season are no different. The main photo on this blog post is of our observation bridge in the Waterfalls Area. This project was completed this winter and in its final iteration will have seating areas for people to take a load off and enjoy the critters below.

The other picture on this blog is of our safari train ride. It’s an observation bridge that overlooks one of our pastures in our grasslands area. For us that completes a uniform roof line that completes the aesthetic of the view when you’re looking in that direction in the park. These projects are a lot of the big things that are done in the off-seasons to provide our guests with the best experience that Timbavati Wildlife Park has to offer.

Other projects that we have taken on this season will be a new addition to our interaction area in the form of new pygmy goat areas for kids to interact with. We have a lot of other cool surprises set for 2018 as well. We can’t wait to show you. Matter of fact, we’re open daily for tours and if you look around, you will see a lot of construction in process. Then you can get the “before” look now and come back in the summer for the “after.”

Talk with you all next week and I hope that our park can bring some warmth to this week’s winter temps! Here’s a look at some previous upgrades we’ve made to the park!

Meet Our New Sloth Lulu

Meet Lulu! Lulu is a our newest three-toed sloth. Now the sloth is the world’s slowest mammal. The animal is so slow that in the canopies of Central and South America it has a greenish colored tint on its fur from the algae growing on it. I mean Sloth’s sleep more than a teenager. In fact they sleep for 15-18 hours a day.

Believe it or not, the sloth is a lot of people’s favorite animal. Sid the sloth has been a family favorite for many years at Timbavati Wildlife Park for many years now. The addition of Lulu means that we now have a sloth couple at the park. If a sloth is your favorite animal, then you’re in luck because now we have a double dose!

Don’t forget that we’re now open all year long. Check the website for more information about tours and times. Here is a video with Sid and a bunch of sloth fun facts to fill your fandom for our furry little friends!

Nature Is Art

Greetings my friends! Today is a glorious wintry day. Winter is nature’s reset button. There’s a simple elegance to the flora cycle. This is based on the passing of last year’s sprouts the the promise of the blooms to come in the spring. While some people see a reason to stay in doors others see art and a reason to go and admire the icy still that is winter.

Spring wraps us in its thaw come the months of March and April. The art that I see nature create every spring is in the chutes and blossoms that begin to shoot forth from the trees bushes and gardens that take on the tasks of providing resources for all creatures of the Earth. The animals that didn’t hibernate also begin to show signs of their winter activities as well. Expectant mothers and protective fathers who are gathering for the nest are all a buzz in anticipation of the the coming life changing events.

By the time we get to summer, Timbavati Wildlife Park’s nurseries and interaction areas are teeming with new arrivals. We literally have bundles of joy hopping all over the place. This brings us to the picture attached to this week’s blog. Last summer on the 4th of July we were blessed with the birth of a healthy zebra foal by the name of Firecracker. Needless to say all of our guests got a treat by witnessing the miracle of life that day.

Let's Take It To The Canvas

One guest took that moment to the canvas, or a slab of wood if you will. Sue Mueller came and took a picture of Firecracker and created a beautiful work of art in colored pencil format. The result is stunning and the piece is actually available for sale at the Wisconsin Dells Craft Mall.

We all win when nature and art intersect because nature is art and art is nature. Don’t forget we’re open all year round with private tours daily at 11AM and 1PM! We will see you all in the park. Here are some zebra facts to keep you all warm. Cheers!

Spring Is Near!

We’re thawing out! That’s right, its getting hot in here but keep your clothes on cause it’s Wisconsin, you never know when that will change. I was recently in Salt Lake City and it got really warm. An Uber driver referred to it as the warm before the storm well this aint Utah so we will take what we can get because there’s always a storm here. But while it’s warm, let’s talk guided tours.

Timbavati Wildlife Park has guided tours available daily at 11AM and 1PM. Now we will admit, last week was a wee bit nippy if you were on a park tour. If you made it, hats off to you! This week though, it looks like a great temperate time to enjoy some animal life.

You can check our website for more information about the guided tours and in the meantime, here is a look at some of what our tours have to offer. Stay warm my friends and I will talk with you next week!

New Year Resolutions

Greetings and welcome to the new year! We’re so glad to be here with you as time marches on and we all officially reset our planet’s path around the sun once more. In just a few weeks we will be looking towards Groundhog Day, the spring thaw and the warmth of our planet’s axis tilting once more. While looking ahead to the next 365 is really easy to do based upon the current cold spell that the midwest is locked in, I’d like to take a moment to reflect on what last year was for us.

Without a doubt our resident penguin couple Mama and Papa was a highlight to 2017. The completion of projects like our outer rock wall extension and revamped Safari Train Station were huge undertakings that turned out really well.

2017 was also a huge year of change as we bid farewell to our beloved owner Mark Schoebel. His humanity and his compassion are still the foundations of our family and the tie that compels us upon our mission. His desire was to see people having the time of their lives when they enter HIS park and by God we will do our best to live up to his vision for our guests and our families.

With that last paragraph I am officially closing the book on 2017. Having said that on a personal note my family has made a lot of changes to our diet starting December 5th. The new year now gives us a chance to embrace exercising and physical fitness. Which brings me to the point of this blog. I am absolutely dying to know what you all have resolved to change in 2018?

Some people will say lose weight, some will say to quit smoking. Some people will want to travel more and some people have resolved to make changes that aren’t conventional. What are your plans? Hopefully Timbavati Wildlife Park is in your plans this year and remember we’re actually open all year round with guided tours available at 11Am and 1PM. Happy New Year and we’re looking forward to seeing you and your loved ones in the park!
